Armonk's houses sit on land, and land means a tent. The ceremony goes under the best tree or on the terrace with two grounded pieces weighted for stone, because nothing can be staked into a patio. The tent gets its ceiling draped, its poles wrapped and its bistro lights strung, and by nine the candles are the lighting plan. In August the flower list goes sturdier and stays in the truck until the last minute. In October the heaters go in and the flowers stay six feet from them. Lanterns line the walk from the house to the tent, since the walk is part of the design after dark.

A club ceremony and reception is ballroom logic with a view: mixed-height centerpieces so the room reads full from the door, a chart placed where the crowd gathers rather than where the foyer is prettiest, pin spots on the tables because club chandeliers dim flat, and an arch on the lawn built open for wind. Cocktail hour on the terrace gets its own decor, lanterns along the rail and a real arrangement on the bar, because two hundred people spend the room flip out there.
