A theme is a palette, not a costume
The best mitzvahs we've done had a theme you could feel and couldn't quite name. The sport, the city, the color, the thing the kid is obsessed with this year, translated into a palette, a texture and two or three big gestures rather than plastered on every surface. The dance floor gets the installation, because that's where thirteen-year-olds spend the night with their heads back. The lounge gets the soft stuff. The adults' tables get something that would work at a wedding, because it's also their party. A room at a club in Scarsdale or a temple hall in Chappaqua can hold all of that and still look like one idea.
Corporate events: the brand is the palette
A gala or a launch arrives with a brand guide, and the brand guide is the word we'd normally have to ask for. Two colors, a typeface, a logo that has to be in the photo, and a room in a hotel in White Plains that a hundred and fifty people will walk into at once. We build the step-and-repeat as a floral or draped wall instead of a vinyl banner, put the logo where the camera will find it, and keep the centerpieces low enough that people can do business across them. Holiday parties get the seasonal version: greens, candles, amber light, and a bar that looks like December without looking like a lobby.
Same room, same rules: scale, light and the exit
Everything we've learned at three-hundred-guest weddings applies here. Mass first, detail second, because a big room punishes small ideas. Light planned before flowers, since a purple DJ wash turns every centerpiece purple and the wedding draping and lighting crew can keep the room amber. Two bars, both dressed. A chart or a check-in that moves a crowd. And a strike that's done by the venue's deadline, which at a club in Armonk is not negotiable. The hanging pieces come from our floral installations and flower walls team and the hardware through our wedding décor rentals, same as every Saturday.
