Wedding Decorators for the First Ninety Seconds
A seating chart has a job
Two hundred people need to find their table before dinner service starts to slip, and the chart has about ten minutes to make that happen. Alphabetical by last name beats grouped by table every time. Names sit between four and six feet off the ground, because below that people bend and above it they squint. The flowers frame the chart, one heavier cluster at a bottom corner and something lighter at the top of the opposite side, and never, ever over a name. For the bigger weddings, the ones at the clubs in Rye and the ballrooms in White Plains, we'll split one giant chart into two, or build an escort card wall twelve feet wide, so twenty people can read at once and nobody's stuck in the foyer.
Where the sign goes matters more than what's on it
The welcome sign is the first thing the photographer shoots and, in most budgets, the last thing that gets any money. It doesn't need much: one corner, one cluster, done. What it needs is placement. Where the cars stop, not where the venue is prettiest. In shade, because mirror throws the sun into whoever's reading it and acrylic glares. Weighted, because outdoor signs live in wind, and a gust at four in the afternoon on the Sound is normal, not a fluke. And in front of something worth being in front of, since a gorgeous sign beside a fire extinguisher is still a sign beside a fire extinguisher.
Cocktail hour is its own room
It runs long here, it's crowded, and it's where half the photos get taken, so the terrace at a club in Larchmont or the foyer of an old house in Bronxville gets designed on purpose: lanterns along the rail, one real arrangement on the bar, bud vases on every high-top. And when cocktail hour ends, nothing built for it sits in an empty hallway. The sign's florals lift off and land on the bar. The chart's arrangement moves to the lounge. It's the same thinking that runs our wedding reception décor, and the easels, mirrors and stands come through our wedding décor rentals.

Do you make the welcome sign itself, or only the flowers?
Both, if you like. Mirror and acrylic sign blanks and easels are part of our rental offering, and we work with calligraphers and stationers for the lettering. If you already have a sign, we design the florals to it.
Seating chart or escort cards?
Under about a hundred and twenty guests, a single chart is fine. Above that, escort cards or two charts, because one wall of three hundred names backs up into the parking lot.
Can the entrance pieces be reused later in the night?
Yes, and they should be. We move them during dinner to the bar, the lounge or the exit.
Do you decorate the cocktail hour space?
Yes. Bar florals, cocktail tables, lounge styling and lanterns, coordinated with the reception so the two feel like one wedding.
