A tent looks like a blank canvas and is the most opinionated room you will ever decorate. No walls, so the seating chart stands on its own legs and the welcome piece goes at the top of the driveway. Centre poles land in the middle of the dance floor and get wrapped rather than ignored. Nothing stakes into a stone patio, so bases are weighted. In August the flower list goes sturdier and the centerpieces stay in the truck until the last possible minute. By nine the bistro lights and the candles are the entire lighting plan, and the walk from the house to the tent gets lanterns because that walk is part of the evening.

Teaneck is one of the most genuinely mixed towns in Bergen County, and its weddings reflect that. Church ceremonies, university and civic rooms, restaurant weddings along Cedar Lane running forty to a hundred guests. Those are close-quarters rooms where nothing hides. Fewer stems, better stems, and a long table with a runner under ten inches so people can talk across it rather than around it. Many Teaneck couples also split the day between two buildings, a ceremony in town and a reception at one of the larger halls a short drive away, which means two designs with one bouquet carrying the palette between them, travelling in water in between. Being ten minutes out, we can be in both places without the gap becoming a problem.
