What We Know About Getting Married in Englewood
The Synagogues & The East Hill
Englewood holds one of the largest Modern Orthodox communities in Bergen County, and the chuppah is the design. We build and rent the frames, dress them fabric before flowers, and set the florals on the posts and along the front edge where the photographs happen. Everything is built to be carried in and struck the same night. The kallah's chair and its florals come first in the order of the day and they are seen close up, so they take the best stems in the truck. Guest counts run larger than a typical wedding, and separate seating means the room has to read from two sides rather than one. That changes where the height goes. Tented Weddings At Home
The lots north of Palisade Avenue and through the East Hill were built for tents. A tent looks like a blank canvas and it is the most opinionated room you will ever decorate. There are no walls, so the seating chart stands on its own legs and so does every welcome piece. Centre poles land in the middle of the dance floor and get wrapped rather than ignored. Bases are weighted, because nothing stakes into a stone patio. In August the heat inside a tent runs well above the lawn, so the flower list goes sturdier and the centerpieces stay in the truck until the last minute. By nine the bistro lights and the candles are the lighting plan, and lanterns line the walk from the house.
In Town & Ten Minutes Out
Englewood has churches, civic rooms and restaurants running weddings of forty to a hundred, and nothing hides at close range. Fewer stems, better stems, and a long-table runner kept under ten inches so people can talk across it. For the bigger celebrations the grand ballrooms are minutes away: Garfield is ten, and the Route 4 and Route 17 halls are not much more. Many Englewood couples split the day across two buildings, a ceremony in town and a reception elsewhere, which means two designs with one bouquet carrying the palette between them and travelling in water in between.
